What Therapy Looks Like

An aerial view of a dense forest with a winding dirt road cutting through the trees.

this is clinical care, distinct from coaching, and may include therapeutic assessment and treatment within my scope as a pre-licensed clinician.

in therapy, we move at a pace that feels safe and collaborative. together, we’ll explore patterns, build awareness of your nervous system responses, and develop tools that support regulation, connection, and emotional well-being.

individual therapy for children

i recognize how hard it can be to notice your child struggling — whether it shows up as big emotions, behavioral challenges, difficulty with transitions, social concerns, or other stressors. taking a breath and reaching out for support is a brave first step, and you deserve guidance that is grounded in both science and care.

common reasons parents seek therapy for their child:

  • School behavior struggles

  • Not respecting others

  • Resistance to discipline

  • Extended meltdowns

  • Difficulty with transitions

  • Strong self-criticism

  • Low impulse control

  • Anxiety or hypervigilance

  • Isolation or withdrawal with peers

  • Challenges connecting with family

  • Fear of trying new things

  • Sensory sensitivities

  • Low self-esteem

  • Excessive shyness
    (etc.)

individual sessions: 45–50 minute clinical therapy sessions focused on your child’s emotional, behavioral, and relational support. sessions include time for caregiver feedback and planning.

school consultation & collaboration: with appropriate consent, therapy may also include collaboration with schools and other care providers. This can support consistency across environments and help adults better understand and respond to your child’s needs.

School consultation may include:

  • Collaboration with teachers or school teams

  • Support around behavioral or emotional plans

  • Advocacy for your child’s social and emotional well-being

Play-Based & Nervous System-Informed Therapy

Children often process experiences and express emotions through play long before they can explain them with words. Therapy integrates play-based approaches with nervous system awareness to help children feel safe, understood, and supported.

This work focuses on:

  • Increasing emotional awareness and regulation

  • Supporting the nervous system in moments of stress

  • Strengthening relational connection

  • Building resilience and internal resources

Rather than focusing solely on behavior, therapy attends to the underlying emotional and physiological needs driving that behavior.

licensure + supervision

i am a pre-licensed Master of Social Work (MSW) working toward independent clinical licensure (LICSW). i practice under the supervision of Kristyn Adler, LICSW, at Be Well Counseling in accordance with state licensing regulations.
